.tz Domains and Registrar Lock

The .tz registry (TZNIC) does not support the registrar lock, so the lock error on .tz/.co.tz/.or.tz domains is expected and cannot be fixed or enabled by us. Transfers are still protected because they need the EPP authorization code, which only the account holder gets. Nameservers are never changed by this.

.tz Domains and Registrar Lock

Customers sometimes see the error "An issue was encountered while updating the domain lock status" when they try to switch on the registrar lock for a .tz domain (.co.tz, .or.tz, .go.tz, .ac.tz, .ne.tz, .tz and so on). This is expected.

Why it fails

.tz domains are managed by TZNIC, and the .tz registry does not support the registrar lock. The lock cannot be enabled from the client area, and SakuraHost cannot enable it on the back end either. There is nothing to fix and no ticket needs to be escalated.

How the domain is still protected

  • A transfer cannot be completed without the domain's EPP authorization code.
  • The code is only issued to the account holder.

Related points

  • Asking for the lock does not change the nameservers. If the customer uses Cloudflare or any other nameservers, they stay as they are.
  • The registrar lock does work on international domains such as .com, .org and .net.
Answering customers: Explain that the lock is not supported by the .tz registry, reassure them about the EPP code protection, and confirm their nameservers are untouched. Do not promise to enable the lock, and do not offer a workaround.
